Independent Living Programs and Services
Center for Independence offers a variety of programs and services to assist people with disabilities and help them to live more independently. All of our services are free with the exception of a small fee for some of the recreational and legal programs. Low Vision & Blind Services
We offer support groups and individual training to help seniors with low vision and blindness live independently, remain active, and cope with vision loss. There is also a low-vision lab available to educate consumers on evolving technology.
Deaf & Hard of Hearing Services
We offer interpreter services, for deaf individuals, through independent contractors. There are opportunities for technology training as well as events specifically for the Deaf, hard of hearing and Deafblind. We also have a video relay phone for program needs in our main office.
Youth Transition Program
We help with benefits, service applications, support groups, and classes for young adults from ages 14-25. There are also specific job training opportunities for youth employment, as well as support in seeking higher education opportunities.
Job Training Program
CFI’s vocational program provides consumers training to join the workforce. Our goal is to empower individuals, build self-confidence, and promote skills that translate into independent living, employment, and peer support.
Computers: Assistive Technology Program
We offer specialized computer software and hardware training in our computer lab or in your home for a variety of skill levels. We also offer training and demonstration of low vision equipment in our Assistive Technology lab.
SSI/SSDI Disability Benefits Acquisition

Housing & Direct Services for Independent Living
We offer housing location assistance, nursing home transition, case management, benefit advocacy and application assistance. We also help with disability hearings, medical advocacy, grant assistance, durable medical equipment, daily living skills training, support group classes, information and referrals.
Serving the Western Slope of Colorado
Center for Independence has multiple locations throughout the Western Slope of Colorado. Visit our offices in Grand Junction, Montrose, Glenwood Springs and Salida. For those who live within the 12 counties served, our staff can provide in-home services, perform benefits counseling, home safety assessments and attend human service council meetings to support ongoing growth and independence.
